ODU will offer practice-oriented doctorate in engineering
Old Dominion University this fall will begin offering classes leading to a practice-oriented doctorate in engineering, the first such program in Virginia.
The State Council of Higher Education approved ODU's 36th doctoral program at its March 11, 2008 meeting at Longwood University. The new degree is aimed not at teachers or researchers, but at professionals seeking to enhance their leadership as well as practical skills in the specialties of aerospace, civil and environmental, management and systems, and mechanical engineering.
In its request for approval, ODU cited growing national and international demand for such expertise, and national reports warning of shortages in the United States.
The Engineering and Technology faculty and staff of Old Dominion University cordially invite teachers, counselors, prospective students and parents to learn more about Old Dominion's engineering programs and facilities.
