Master's Degree Requirements
The M.S. degrees in Civil Engineering and in Environmental Engineering require twenty-four (24) credit hours of graduate course work (normally eight courses) and six (6) credit hours of thesis research. The student is expected to pass an oral thesis defense examination.
Project and Non-project options are available for students who wish to pursue a M.E. degree. The project option requires twenty-seven (27) credit hours of graduate course work (normally nine courses) plus a three (3) credit hour project. The student is expected to pass an oral examination on his or her project. The Non-project option requires thirty (30) credit hours of graduate course work (normally ten (10) courses); the student is expected to pass a final comprehensive examination covering the entire program of study. The comprehensive examination is oral for the M.E. degree in Civil Engineering, and it is written for the M.E. degree in Environmental Engineering. All requirements for a M.S. or M.E. degree should be completed within a period of six-years. Students whose graduate study is interrupted by military service will be granted an extension of time for the period of their military service, not to exceed five years.
