Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Four year accredited engineering degree with experience in
    structural steel design, reinforced concrete design, or foundation design.
  • Skilled in use of advanced techniques and modification and
    extension of theories, precepts and practices of the field and related
    sciences and disciplines.
  • In depth knowledge of various computer applications, with the
    ability to manipulate personal computer applications and perform
    engineering calculations using applicable software programs (e.g. Matlab,
    Excel, etc.).
  • Strong personal computer skills.

Title: Associate Project Engineer

Weston Solutions, Inc. (WESTON®), a leading infrastructure redevelopment services firm, has an exceptional opportunity in our Chesapeak office for an Associate Project Engineer.

Most work associated with DoD installations. The primary objective is to coordinate the preparation of engineering studies and investigations resulting in written reports as needed for projects and to see these items are complete, accurate, and in accordance with good engineering practice within contract constraints. POSITION DUTIES:

Support senior engineers and project managers on a range of environmental engineering, sustainability and infrastructure projects including environmental sampling, site assessments, documentation support for field sampling plans, quality assurance plans, remedial investigation/feasibility study (RI/FS) reports, and development of sustainable solutions for our clients and their infrastructure projects.

Gather and organize technical information during proposal preparation and assist Project Manager in estimating project costs; maintain an awareness of project budgets and complete project within budget.

Provide technical guidance and perform field engineering and general coordination, oversight, and scheduling of work with contractors and junior engineers assigned to projects.

Make day-to-day technical decisions during execution of project regarding the depth of investigation, collecting and summarizing technical information, and drawing concise conclusions, and recommendations at the end of the project.

Successfully interact, communicate and market with a range of professionals.

Keep abreast of new developments and work to incorporate into personal expertise and into general WESTON expertise; develop professional reputation (such as technical papers and presentations).

BS degree in Engineering with 3-4 years experience.
Certification preferred or mandatory goal toward attaining P.E. during employment.
Candidate must have either 2-3 years of RI/FS and/or environmental remediation experience.
Ability to obtain security clearance to work on military installations.

TITLE: Junior Technician I (TI)   Intern/Co-op position

LOCATION: Newport News, VA

JOB DESCRIPTION: This is an entry level position.  Candidate will have the opportunity to learn and expand their skills by assisting in a variety of challenging projects.  The individual will perform daily tasks under close supervision or from detailed procedures.  Work is checked in progress and/or upon completion. This position will receive detailed direction from Junior to Senior level Engineers. Tasks will include making sketches and simple drawings as well as compiling data for engineering reports. Some field work may be required.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be a Junior or Senior working towards obtaining a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering.  This position offers flexibility in accommodating course schedules.  Experience with AutoCAD is a plus.  Candidate must be motivated, capable of working independently, and organized with excellent written and oral communication skills.

Position: Geotechnical Staff Project Manager

Professional services are required to support military reimbursable projects within the South Atlantic Division. Two (2) positions are required for Project Managers to perform a broad scope of services working at the Savannah District Headquarters in Savannah, Georgia.

Duration: 30 April 2008 to 30 October 2008.

Specific tasks and responsibilities may include:

  1. Overall management, control, coordination and integration of assigned projects.
  2. Coordination and development of project management plans and appropriate acquisition strategies.
  3. Development and management of project schedules and budgets from receipt through construction contract award.
  4. Development and management of project scopes to ensure customer requirements and expectations are met.
  5. Plan and schedule accomplishment of design, appropriate reviews, and approvals of the project design. Obtains required data and criteria, resolves problems which arise, analyzes design costs, and prepares reports and correspondence.
  6. Communication of project status and issues with the customer and all stakeholders (Project Delivery Team).
  7. Development and maintenance of project management information systems and preparation or delivery of presentations and routine briefings on the status of assigned projects.

These services require a broad technical background and project management experience.

The Project Manager must become familiar with the overall program directives, schedules, and pertinent policies including fiscal targets for design, and all relevant District administrative and reporting procedures pertinent to the assigned work.

Experienced professional judgment must be applied in dealing frequently with customer requirements and acquisition methods.

Typical projects include maintenance, repairs, and renovations to buildings including training facilities, operational facilities, community facilities and installation infrastructure projects. Projects typically vary in size from $100,000 to $2.5 Million. Minor new construction projects may be undertaken up to approximately $1.5 Million in size.

Travel associated with this position is infrequent and is expected to not exceed 3 days a month.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OF PROJECT MANAGERS:

Both Degree and Experience requirements must be met.

1. Degree: College Degree in professional engineering or architecture (Mechanical, Electrical, Structural, Civil, etc). To be acceptable, the curriculum must: (1) be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials; (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials; and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.

Duration: Approximately one year beginning 30 April 2008 with Options to extend for two additional one year periods.

  8. Development and maintenance of project management information systems and preparation or delivery of presentations and routine briefings on the status of assigned projects.

These services require a broad technical background, a full and in-depth understanding of Corps of Engineers procedures and business processes, and a strong project management background.

The Project Manager must become familiar with the overall program directives, schedules, and pertinent policies including fiscal targets for design, and all relevant District administrative and reporting procedures pertinent to the assigned work.

Experienced, professional judgment must be applied in dealing frequently with customer requirements and acquisition methods.
