Admission Requirements and Information

University Graduate Admission Requirements

  1. Complete application and domicile form from ODU Office of Admissions
  2. Provide three references
  3. Provide two official transcripts of all previous studies (must be sent by student's previous academic institution)
  4. Provide official graduate admission test scores (as applicable)
  5. Pay $40 application fee to Old Dominion University

College of Engineering and Technology Requirements

For regular admission, each program requires a bachelor's degree in the appropriate field from an accredited institution of higher education and the submission of the Graduate Record Examination(GRE) Scores. The Master of Engineering Management program requires a bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, applied science and two years of post-bachelor's work experience. The master's program in modeling and simulation reuires an undergraduate degree in the sciences, engnieering, or information systems. Each applicant must submit an essay of no more than 500 words describing personal and academic goals, professional objectives, preparation for graduate study, and how the chosen program will help the applicant achieve goals and objectives. In addition, each applicant must have an undergraduate Grade Point Average(GPA) of 3.00 or better (based upon a 4.00 GPA maximum), except for the modeling and simulation program which requires an over all 2.80 GPA or better and a GPA of 3.00 or better in the applicable major. Exceptions to the requirements require consultation with the appropriate graduate program director.

Students may also elect to take CGEP courses by submitting a Nondegree application. This is intended for qualified persons who desire professional education or who wish to apply later to a degree program.

Standardized Testing

Certain degree programs require the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) for admission. Tests are administered at ODU at various times throughout the year. Test applications and dates may be requested from the ODU Admissions Office at (757) 683-3637.
