Professor Dharamsi received his BS degree from the University of Nairobi, Kenya, and obtained both the MS and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Alberta in Canada. His research interests are in the broad area of laser interaction with matter. In particular, his research focuses upon laser-based sensors, laser development, molecular spectroscopy, as well as on quantum electronics. His publications involve papers on laser-based sensing using modulation spectroscopy, on ultrashort optoacoustic pulses, on electric field induced emission from gases and on the kinetics of thermoluminescence. He has also published in the areas of lidar laser line-stabilization, novel laser sources, excited state absorption spectroscopy, optoacoustic spectroscopy, molecular complex potential energy calculations, and optical couplings. Details of his publications are given on his web page, a link to which is provided below. Dr. Dharamsi has developed and taught a large number of graduate and undergraduate courses in the physical electronics area of the department, including courses on lasers and laser applications, electromagnetics, electrooptics, electrical properties of materials, spectroscopy, electrical machinery, electronics and electrical circuits.
