Success Highlight - From an Alumnus
Meet Christie Funk! She's an ODU Alumnus who met with success with perseverance through ODU and beyond.
I graduated with an M.S. degree in Aerospace Engineering from ODU in December 2012. I completed my thesis entitled "Modification and Application of a Turbulence Response Analysis Method for Flexible Aircraft Configurations" under the supervision of my academic advisor Dr. Newman.
After graduation, I was hired as a Research Aerospace Engineer in the Aeroelasticity Branch at NASA Langley Research Center. My current research is performing gust analyses in support of the High Speed – ASE Project. Previously, I participated in the Student Career Experience Program (SCEP) in the Aeroelasticity Branch (2009-2013) and spent three consecutive terms in the Langley Aerospace Research Summer Scholars (LARSS) program (2008-2009). In addition, I supported the aeroelastic analysis of the QSST vehicle (residualization analyses and unsteady RANS aerodynamic analyses), performed CFL3D aeroelastic analysis for the AGARD 445.6 wing, created plant models using MATLAB sysID, and worked as a member of the test team on the Semi-Span SuperSonic Transport (S4T) wind-tunnel model.
I was selected to participate in the Pre-Launch Education Forum at Kennedy Space Center in 2009. I have participated in meetings with Senators and Delegates during Aerospace Day at the General Assembly in 2009, 2010, and 2012 and was a higher education panel participant in 2010. I participated in NASA Day of Education in 2010 and 2012.
