The Mission of MEAC

The Mechanical Engineering Advisory Council (MEAC) advises the department on academic and professional issues pertaining to the BSME program. The goals of MEAC, as they relate to the undergraduate program, are to:
  1. review the B.S. degree program, and provide suggestions and input for program objectives,
  2. help the Mechanical Engineering Department become aware of the educational needs of the technical community served,
  3. provide strategies for developing linkages with the technical community which will result in opportunities for collaboration, and
  4. help the Mechanical Engineering Department in developing long range plans which will assist in identifying future initiatives/direction.

The advisory council is composed of 16 professionals, many holding managerial or supervisory positions, from industrial companies and federal organizations located in the southeastern region of the Virginia. A significant percentage, if not majority, of ME graduates from Old Dominion University are employed in the southeastern region of Virginia.

The MEAC members bring the industry perspectives, and they have been very active in recent years in the formulation, assessment and evaluation of the BSME program objectives. The Council meets twice a year during the Fall and Spring semesters.
