MSVE Paper to be Honored at the 2014 Annual Meeting of the Transportation Research Board, National Academies
The Annual Meeting of the Transportation Research Board of the National Academies is hosted every year in January in Washington, DC. It is the largest transportation conference in the world. The 92nd Annual Meeting in 2013 attracted more than 11,000 attendees from all over the globe, and received over 4700 paper submissions.
MSVE's paper: "Impact of Heavy Vehicles on Freeway Operating Characteristics under Congested Conditions" co-authored by Umama Ahmed and her doctoral thesis adviser Dr. ManWo Ng (and Dr. Drakopoulos from Marquette University) has been designated as the "Best Freeway Operations Paper in 2013".
The authors will be recognized at the morning session of the TRB Freeway Operations Committee meeting which will occur from 8 a.m. to noon on Tuesday January 14th, 2014 in the Wilson B&C rooms of the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel.
To justify this award, the selection committee states that "The impact of heavy vehicles on freeway operations characteristics has become critical to operating freeway facilities. Your paper focusing on the impact of heavy vehicles on roadway performance presented an innovative framework for developing and using models under forced-flow traffic conditions. As such, it was deemed to make a significant contribution to the body of knowledge in freeway operations by this committee."
